Block Blast: frequently asked questions

Short answers about the rules, scoring, saving, settings and the Daily Challenge.

Playing the game

How do I play Block Blast?

Drag and drop the given blocks onto the grid. Complete a full row or column to clear it and earn points. The game ends when no more blocks can fit on the grid.

The grid has 8 rows and 8 columns, and the tray below it holds three pieces; when all three are placed, three new ones appear. The How to Play page explains every rule with pictures.

Can I rotate the pieces?

No. Pieces are always placed exactly as they appear in the tray. The same shape can come in different orientations, but you cannot turn a piece yourself.

When is the game over?

The game ends when none of the pieces left in the tray fits anywhere on the board. As long as at least one piece can be placed, you can keep playing. New pieces are dealt so that at least one of them fits the board at that moment.

Is the game fair, or can it give me pieces that never fit?

Every new set of three pieces is checked against the board before you get it: at least one of the pieces always fits, and the game prefers sets in which all three can be placed. The game can still end, because each placement changes the board, but it never deals a set that is impossible from the start.

Can I play Block Blast on mobile devices?

Yes, Block Blast can be played on most mobile devices through your web browser.

The game was made for touch screens first. The board and the tray fit on one screen, a dragged piece floats above your finger so you can see where it goes, and the page does not scroll while you play. You can also tap a piece and then tap a square on the board.

Can I play with a keyboard?

Yes. Press 1, 2 or 3 to pick a piece from the tray, move it with the arrow keys, and press Enter or Space to place it. Esc cancels the selection, and P pauses the game.

Points, combos and records

How do I score points in Block Blast?

You earn points by clearing rows or columns. Clearing multiple lines at once or consecutively can give you bonus points.

In addition, each block you place is worth 1 point. Clearing lines with one piece gives 10 points for one line, 40 for two, 90 for three and 160 for four: 10 × the number of lines × the number of lines. The scoring guide has the full tables and examples.

What is a combo?

If you clear lines and then clear again within your next three pieces, you build a combo. The second clearing move in a row doubles its line points, the third triples them, and so on, up to eight times. Placing three pieces in a row without clearing anything ends the combo.

What is a board clear?

A board clear happens when a move clears lines and leaves the board completely empty. It gives a bonus of 300 points. Your statistics count how many board clears you have made.

Where can I see my best score and statistics?

Your best score is shown next to your score above the board. The Statistics button opens, for each mode, the number of games played, your best and average score, the total lines cleared, your best combo and your board clears. For the Daily Challenge you also see your current and longest streak and your best score today.

Saving, devices and settings

Can I save my progress?

Yes, Block Blast saves your progress automatically in your browser, so you can close the page and continue your game later.

Your current game, your best scores, your statistics and your settings are all saved on your device. The data is not sent to us, so it does not move to another device or browser.

Can I pause the game?

Yes, Block Blast has a pause button in the top bar, and since there are no time limits, you can take breaks as needed.

On a keyboard, P or Esc also pauses. The board is hidden while the game is paused, and the game pauses by itself when you switch to another tab.

Can I continue my game on another device?

No. Your game is stored only in the browser where you play, and there are no accounts. A game started on your phone stays on your phone, and a private or incognito window always starts fresh. If you clear your browser's data for this site, your saved game, best scores and statistics are deleted too.

Which settings can I change?

In Settings you can turn sound and vibration on or off, switch to the dark theme, use high-contrast block colors, reduce animations and choose one of 16 languages. You can also replay the short tutorial there. Vibration is available only on devices that support it.

The Daily Challenge and the site

What is the Daily Challenge?

A separate game that starts with the same pieces for everyone on the same date. A new one starts at midnight in your time zone. You can play it as often as you like, and your best score of the day is kept. Read more on the Daily Challenge page.

How does the daily streak count?

Your streak grows by one for every day in a row on which you finish at least one daily game, which means playing until no piece fits; starting over does not count. Your score does not matter. If you miss a whole day, the streak starts again from zero, but your longest streak stays in your statistics.

Is Block Blast free to play?

Yes, Block Blast is completely free to play online, with no downloads or installations required.

Classic, the Daily Challenge, statistics and all settings are free, with no account and nothing to buy. The site is paid for by the ads shown around the game, never on the board.

Is Block-Blast.gg connected to any app or company?

No. Block-Blast.gg is an independent site. The game on it is our own version, written from scratch, and we are not affiliated with any app or company that uses a similar name. You can read more about us.
